If you have a child with asthma or suffer from asthma symptoms yourself, you will find that the doctor will ask you a series of questions that will give him an idea of the adult asthma symptoms you have. This way he will be able to tell if you have an onset of asthma and how he can treat the problems that you have. This is something that you can do yourself; you will find that there are a lot of sites online that offer you a huge list of adult asthma symptoms.

The first thing that you need to know is that not all sites have the same information. Some sites are written by trained professionals and others are written by people who do research into the field for the sake of that article. You will have to know where to find the good information, but this does not mean that all of the non professional information is not good. You will be able to match up a lot of the information that you find on all of the sites, and you will find that it is more helpful if you put some of the information together to make a whole.

This means that you will know more about the subject you are learning about, in this case, adult asthma symptoms. You will find that the symptoms for asthma for adults are not that much different from the symptoms for younger kids, or the symptom for people with allergy induced asthma.

The first thing that you will have to look out for is shortness of breath. This is the most common symptom of asthma in all people, young and old, woman or female. This is, however, not how it all start, or it does not have to be. You will find that some people will have a shortness of breath, but they will still not have asthma.

Some people start with a woozy chest. This means that you will be able to breathe normally but you will hear an irritating wheezing or woofing sound when you breathe in and out. This is the mucous on your chest, and is associated with asthma, or maybe even some aerosols. What you need to know however, is that asthma has very similar symptoms to bronchitis and emphysema. So you will need to contact your doctor for a proper check up.

All of the above mention illnesses make your body release what is called histamine. It is this histamine that creates the swelling in your throat and chest, and most of the time in your airways. The one way that you can find out if you have mere bronchial illness or asthma is for you to sit in a humidifies room for a while. If it clears up you have bronchitis and can be treated easily.

Find information about treating asthma symptoms in adults and children with Pulmicort Flexhaler. Pulmicort Flexhaler™ (budesonide inhalation powder, 90 mcg & 180 mcg), an inhaled corticosteroid, is used for the maintenance treatment of asthma in adults and children 6 years or older. Pulmicort Flexhaler is not a bronchodilator and should NOT be used to treat an acute asthma attack. If you are switching to Pulmicort Flexhaler from an oral corticosteroid, follow your doctor’s instructions to avoid health risks when you stop using oral corticosteroids.

Osteoporosis is a disease of the bones characterized by a decrease in bone mass and structural deterioration of bone tissue, leading to bone fragility and increased susceptibility to fractures of the hip, spine and wrist. Osteoporosis affects millions of older adults, usually striking after 60. Although it is most commonly found in women, it is not unheard of in men. Osteoporosis can be very far along before it became noticeable. Sometimes the first sign is a broken bone in the hip, spine, or wrist after a bump or fall. As the disease gets worse, other signs may appear such as pain in the back and ultimately, a curved backbone.

Causes of Osteoporosis

Causes of osteoporosis are heredity and lifestyle. Whites and Asians, tall and thin women and those with a history of osteoporosis are those at the highest risk of getting osteoporosis. The behavioral causes of increasing the risk of osteoporosis are smoking, alcohol abuse, prolonged inactivity and a diet low in calcium. There are also some diseases that are associated with aging that cause osteoporosis, which include kidney failure, liver disease, cancers, Paget´s disease, endocrine or glandular diseases, gonadal failure and rheumatoid arthritis. There are some medications like steroids, seizure drugs, thyroid hormone and blood thinners that are also found to cause osteoporosis.

Symptoms of Osteoporosis

In the beginning of the disease no symptoms of the disease are seen because osteoporosis doesn’t cause symptoms unless bone fractures. Some osteoporosis fractures may escape detection until years later. Patient may not be aware of the disease until they experience painful fracture. Typical osteoporosis fractures occur in hip, vertebral column and wrist. These type of fractures can cause acute radiculopathic pains in the back. Multiple vertebral fractures can cause loss of height and defect in posture.

Having Osteoporosis symptoms means that your bones will become very brittle and that without to much effort your bones will break or fracture. A simple fall or a knock can break things like your leg bones, hip bones, and wrist bones. Osteoporosis symptoms are usually very hard to detect and in most cases the first you will know about whether you have Osteoporosis or not is when you end up in hospital due to a broken or fractured bone.

Treatment of Osteoporosis

Treatment for osteoporosis includes eating a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, getting regular exercise, and taking medication to reduce bone loss and increase bone thickness. It’s important to take calcium and vitamin D supplements along with any medicines you take for osteoporosis. Even small changes in diet, exercise, and medicine can help prevent spine and hip fractures.

There are also advances in osteoporosis medication occurring every day. One of suggestion for you is ACTONEL to prevents and treats osteoporosis. It’s the only oral monthly osteoporosis treatment approved to help prevent fractures at both the spine and other areas where fractures commonly occur (other areas were measured as a group, not separately). ACTONEL is clinically proven to help decrease the chance of a spinal fracture in just 1 year. Talk to your doctor to find out if ACTONEL is the right fit for your bone health routine.

Ulcerative colitis is a disease that causes inflammation and sores, called ulcers. This happens in the lining of the rectum and colon. Ulcers form where inflammation has killed the cells that usually line the colon, then bleed and produce pus. Ulcerative colitis is usually continuous from the rectum onwards, with the rectum almost universally being involved. There is rarely peri-anal disease, but cases have been reported. This ulcer causes diarrhoea, bleeding and mucus. With time the patient may become anaemic, protein and salt depleted.

Symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis

Symptoms can vary from mild to severe. For some people the condition is a minor inconvenience, while for others it can seriously impact on their quality of life. Symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis include severe and persistent pain in the abdomen, sores of the bowel, diarrhea/stool softening, bleeding from the intestine, weight loss, and perhaps fever. Due to blood loss, patients can suffer anemia.

Inflammation in Ulcerative Colitis

Inflammation is a process that often occurs in order to fight off foreign invaders in the body including viruses, bacteria, and fungi. In response to such organisms, the body’s immune system begins to produce a variety of cells and chemicals intended to stop the invasion.
In the case of Ulcerative colitis, cells from the immune system are collected in the bowel wall, this leads to inflammation, injuring the bowel. This injury causes tissues of the affected part of the body, normally the colon and rectum to become swollen, red, warm, and painful especially its mucous membranes. The inflamed membranes develop patches of tiny ulcers, causing diarrhea that contains blood and mucus. Inflammation usually begins in the rectum and lower intestine and spreads upward to the entire colon.

Diagnosing Ulcerative Colitis with Blood Test

Blood tests may also uncover a high white blood cell count, which is a sign of inflammation somewhere in the body. The best way to confirm a diagnosis and locate the area of infection is through a procedure called endoscopy. Blood disorders have been reported and some have been fatal. The most common and distinct symptom of this illness is when blood is found in the stool. Colitis rarely affects the small intestine except for the lower section, the ileum.

Ulcerative colitis drugs and treatment

Medical treatment with medications taken orally or rectally, is the first therapeutic option for people with ulcerative colitis. However, about 25 to 40 percent of patients with ulcerative colitis will eventually require surgery. Ulcerative colitis is usually treated with anti-inflammatory drugs based on various preparations of the drug 5-ASA. They are usually in tablet form. These drugs reduce the inflammation in the colon and are usually continued long term since they have been shown to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.

There are many drugs that can be used to treat this disease. Some of which is Asacol (mesalamine) helps relieve ulcerative colitis symptoms including number of bowel movements and rectal bleeding as early as 3 weeks. Asacol is the only sulfa-free 5-ASA medication indicated for both treatment of mild to moderate flare-ups of ulcerative colitis and maintenance of remission of ulcerative colitis. Asacol HD (mesalamine) delayed-release tablets are available only by prescription for the treatment of moderately active UC. Asacol and Asacol HD are generally well tolerated. In clinical studies, some patients taking Asacol or Asacol HD reported upset stomach, diarrhea, stomach pain, belching, flatulence, worsening of UC symptoms, headache, runny nose, sore throat, and general pain.

If you want to learn more information, please visit Asacol.com. They will help you understand what ulcerative colitis is and the various aspects of the condition, including treatment, diet, and maintenance therapy.

A second opinion is always a good idea when your life or quality of life is at stake. Medical conditions sometimes occur that your primary care physician can’t treat. You may need a specialist, whom you’ve never met, for a second medical opinion. Putting your life into the hands of a stranger deserves some research.

When should you seek a second opinion?
Because of the increase in medical knowledge and new treatments, it is difficult for any one physician to be aware of all the latest information. One result is patients and their physicians together are seeking second opinions so better and more informed decisions can be made. For minor medical issues-a cold, flu bug, a scratch or scrape, allergies, etc you probably won’t need a second opinion.

However, there are certain times when a second opinion is absolutely essential. So when is the best time to get a second medical opinion?
• Having major surgery
• Questioning whether surgery is the only option
• Unhappy that your regular doctor can’t diagnose your problem
• Having trouble talking with your current doctor(s)
• Not seeing improvement in your medical condition
• Diagnosed with a life-threatening disease such as cancer, heart disease or brain tumor
• Told a second surgery is recommended
• Having multiple medical problems
Getting a good second opinion
some physicians disagree about whether you should get a “blind” second opinion (when medical records, test results and first physician’s opinion are not

made available to the second doctor) or if this information should be shared with the second opinion doctor.
Questions to ask during a second opinion appointment
• Is there any chance the medical problem could have a different diagnosis?
• Are there any alternative forms of treatment available?
• What are the likely results if you wait or don’t have the treatment?
• What are the risks associated with the treatment(s)?
• Are there any side effects or residual effects from each treatment option?
• How is the treatment plan expected to improve your health or quality of life?
• How long is the recovery period?
How can I get another medical opinion?
• Your doctors may refer you to other doctors or specialists.
• Ask friends or relatives who’ve been treated for the same condition.
• Ask for a list of approved doctors from your medical insurance company or your employer’s health plan administrator.
• Call your local medical society.
• Contact a hospital or medical school you’re comfortable with and ask them to refer you to a specialist for a second medical opinion.
• Verify the doctor’s credentials through your state’s medical board once you’ve decided who you’ll see for a second medical opinion.

The use of medication as the primary form of treatment for High Blood Pressure has come on in leaps and bounds over the past fifty years and what was once a very inexact science has now become one where by and large it is very exact. The treatment programmes that were instigated seem very primitive in hindsight and thankfully now with the introduction of increasingly sophisticated drug therapy matters have moved ahead somewhat.

The major treatment approach of High Blood Pressure Medication at the time largely consisted of advising patients to have a diet that was low in salt, lots of “bed rest” and possibly the use of sleeping pills. Drug treatment for those suffering from High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) can significantly increase the lifespan and reduce mortality rates accordingly and to millions of people the world over (myself included) these drug related therapies have been very much a life saver.

However as with most things, the use of drug therapy, whilst extremely useful in most cases, is not always the best choice for people in certain cases.

For those suffering with moderately raised blood pressure, mild incidences of Hypertension and no incidences of Heart Problem, you can usually bring blood pressure down to normal levels in a bout a year of starting lifestyle changes. Changes like these can help sufferer’s of high blood pressure manage HBP over the longer term as well since as we all know Hypertension does not go away. Successful management of high blood pressure like this ensures that in some cases (and it does have to be stressed here that we are talking about some cases) the use of medication can and does become unnecessary.

Whenever and wherever, the instigation of non drug therapies is encouraged and even if not successful in isolation, the end result means that the amounts of drugs and the types used can be of a more reasonable amount and type.

Talk to your doctor about what your blood pressure goal should be. Once you establish a blood pressure goal, work with your doctor to reach that goal and keep your numbers at a healthy level. This may mean making healthy lifestyle changes. Some people are able to successfully lower their blood pressure this way. However, most people also need the help of prescription medications to further lower their blood pressure. And most people need more than one medication to reach their blood pressure goal.

EXFORGE and EXFORGE HCT are prescription medicines for the treatment of high blood pressure. EXFORGE contains two prescription medicines: amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker (CCB), and valsartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). EXFORGE may be used when any one of the following medicines to lower your high blood pressure is not enough: a dihydropyridine CCB or an ARB. It may also be used as the first medicine to lower high blood pressure if your doctor decides you are likely to need more than one medicine. EXFORGE HCT contains three prescription medicines: amlodipine, valsartan, and hydrochlorothiazide (a diuretic or water pill). EXFORGE HCT may be used to lower blood pressure in adults when any two of the following medicines to lower high blood pressure have been tried first: a CCB, an ARB, and a diuretic.

Menopause treatment begins with a change in a woman’s dietary habits. One has to take calcium in the form of tablets or in natural dairy products and vegetables. She must decrease consumption of caffeine products like tea and coffee. This is helpful in preserving bone density and increases absorption of calcium.

Other menopause treatments include physical exercises to build strong bones. This must be in the form of a brisk walk or weightlifting exercises to strengthen her bones. Exercising regularly also helps in weight reduction. It is good for the heart and can reduce one’s cholesterol level.

Menopause treatments for hot flushes involve consumption of natural products like soy and tofu that contain natural estrogens. One can have them in raw or cooked form. Scientific studies indicate that soy definitely reduces hot flushes.

Menopause medicines can form a part of menopause treatments. The intake of belladonna and clonidine can considerably reduce hot flushes. However, one must study their side effects before consuming them. Some medicines induce sleep while others can be dangerous for those having blood pressure.

It may be time to make a tiny change. Consider Vivelle-Dot , the #1 prescribed transdermal estrogen patch.* Taking Vivelle-Dot as prescribed can help you stay in control of your moderate to severe hot flushes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness and atrophy associated with menopause. And as long as you are on Vivelle-Dot, you are helping to protect your bones from postmenopausal osteoporosis (thin, weak bones). The tiny Vivelle-Dot patch is an estrogen-only treatment that’s applied to your lower abdomen twice a week. Vivelle-Dot delivers a continuous flow of estradiol (a form of estrogen like your body’s own). The translucent patch is the smallest, most discreet patch available. And it sticks with you — during exercise, in the shower, even in the pool.

Another very popular menopause treatment is hormone replacement therapy. This therapy involves taking the estrogen and progesterone hormones orally or in the form of topical creams. Women who have their uterus intact must take both hormones in regulated doses. It is important to decide the dose as per the doctor’s directions since the intake varies from person to person.

Hormone therapy is available in the form of tablets and creams. Women under 50 years experiencing early menopause can safely take these types of menopause treatments. However, one must undertake a mammogram once in two years, if on hormone therapy. A host of menopause treatments is now widely available due to rapid advances in science. However, a woman must take a suitable treatment according to her needs and strictly under a doctor’s supervision.

Regardless of race, age, or gender, anyone can develop high blood pressure. It is estimated that one in every four American adults has high blood pressure. Once high blood pressure develops, it usually lasts a lifetime. You can prevent and control high blood pressure by taking action. The causes of high blood pressure vary. Causes may include narrowing of the arteries, a greater than normal volume of blood, or the heart beating faster or more forcefully than it should. Any of these conditions will cause increased pressure against the artery walls.

Excess weight is a large factor in high blood pressure. Though many people who are not obese suffer from the condition, it’s three times more likely that those who are overweight will develop the condition. Obesity starts at 20% above the ideal weight for your height and bone structure. However, sometimes a small weight loss of five to ten pounds will reduce blood pressure to within the normal range. If you have high blood pressure and are overweight, try to get as close to your recommended body weight as possible.

The key to lowering blood pressure by walking is to walk briskly, swinging your arms. Start by walking a quarter mile and build up the length of the walks to a mile. You will be surprised at how much your blood pressure lowers after a regular routine of walking daily for two weeks to a month. The reason that exercise reduces high blood pressure is that it opens blood vessels and that makes the blood pressure come down. Even though blood pressure goes up during exercise, it drops when the exercise ends. Then when it goes back up, it doesn’t reach such a high level.

Another important measure for you health is to not smoke: While cigarette smoking is not directly related to high blood pressure, it increases you risk of heart attack and stroke. As your body weight increases, your blood pressure rises. In fact, being overweight can make you two to six times more likely to develop high blood pressure than if you are at your desirable weight. Keeping your weight in the desirable range is not only important to prevent high blood pressure but also for your overall health and well-being.

The high blood pressure treatment is one of the most important areas of modern medicine. Good quality care and blood pressure treatment can reduce the risk of death, the risk of stroke and the risk of heart attack or coronary disease. If you are taking medication to lower your blood pressure but you are still not meeting your blood pressure goal. Talk to your doctor about what blood pressure numbers are right for you and if Tekturna HCT and Tekturna may be an option.

Tekturna and Tekturna HCT are prescription medications for adults used to treat high blood pressure. They can be used alone or in combination with other high blood pressure medications. It is not known whether additive effects are present when Tekturna or Tekturna HCT are used in combination with types of medications called ACE inhibitors or beta blockers. It’s an innovative new blood pressure treatment that works differently from other medicines available today and targets a key source that may contribute to high blood pressure.

A kidney transplant is a surgical procedure in which a healthy donated kidney is transplanted into your body. A successful kidney transplant will allow you to return to a more normal lifestyle and will free you from dialysis treatments. However, a kidney transplant is not a cure. It is the treatment of choice for kidney failure for those who are considered suitable candidates for a transplant.

To find out if you are a candidate, your healthcare team will perform a series of tests as part of a complete medical assessment. Kidney transplantation is typically classified as deceased-donor (formerly known as cadaveric) or living-donor transplantation depending on the source of the recipient organ.

Living donors are carefully evaluated to make sure they are medically and psychologically able to donate their kidneys for kidney transplant. The living donor transplant used to be done via an open procedure but it is now increasingly done through laparoscopic surgery, which is easier to tolerate. Kidneys from living donors have a better success rate than do kidneys from deceased donors.

Kidney transplant from deceased donors can come from those whose hearts are still beating but are brain dead, as well as from non-heartbeating donors. The kidney can survive on ice for several hours before transplant so that technically, a person can be deceased and still donate their kidneys. The kidney is then kept in a cold solution prior to donation. The best organs for kidney transplant come from the brain dead donors.

Doctors judge compatibility for kidney transplant by assessing the ABO blood type of the donor and recipient as well as the HLA and minor antigens. If many of these match, the risk of rejecting the transplant and further dialysis is much decreased. In addition, immunosuppressants are used to keep the immune system in check. In the US, only about 17% of transplants have no HLA mismatch whatsoever. This improves the success rate remarkably.

Because kidneys can be kept cold for several hours, the kidney transplant is usually done in a different place from where it was harvested. In addition, the kidney is also placed in a different place from where a normal kidney would be. The most common spot for kidney transplant is the iliac fossa in the lower abdomen. The blood supply must come from somewhere other than the renal artery.

In situations where the kidney transplant recipient is a diabetic, the pancreas is also sometimes transplanted at the same time in order to turn around some of the diabetes the individual has. This almost always requires a deceased donor although partial pancreas transplants in living donors has been done. The patient can also receive a kidney transplant first, followed by a pancreas transplant at a later date.

People who receive a transplant must take medication and be monitored by a physician who specializes in kidney disease (nephrologist) for the rest of their lives. That’s reason you should know about myfortic® and CellCept®, it delivers the same highly effective immunosuppressive drug called mycophenolic acid (MPA). The difference between myfortic and CellCept is that myfortic is an enteric-coated formulation of MPA in a delayed-release tablet. If you want to get some excellent resources on kidney, please visit MyFortic.com to learn about myfortic (mycophenolic acid) a kidney transplant medication , and find information on kidney transplant.

Osteoporosis is an increasingly widespread condition defined by the loss of bone density. In a word, bones become fragile and easily breakable. Normally, bones are comprised of a mix of protein, calcium, and collagen. They make bones strong; they are lacking in the bones of someone with osteoporosis. Once this condition sets in, a bone can be broken even if the injury is minor; the most innocuous injury can cause a fracture. The most common fractures include cracking bones, collapsing bones, and compression fractures. Frequently, breaks occur in the spine, the wrists, and the hips.

It is rather difficult to successfully pinpoint osteoporosis symptoms, simply because they often do not occur for decades. In fact, a person may not know he or she has osteoporosis until a fracture occurs. Even certain fractures can go without being detected for a number of years. A person with this condition may thus be unaware of it until he or she suffers a particularly bad break. At that point, the symptoms are proportional to the location of the break.

When a fracture occurs in the spine, it might manifest in symptoms like severe pain radiating from the back to the side of the bond. Chronic pain in the lower back, loss of height, and curvature of the spine can occur over time. This often results in what is known as a dowager’s hump. In order to accurately pinpoint this condition, sometimes a routine X-ray can do the job. Unfortunately, they often do not do so in time to prevent pain, nor can they accurately illuminate bone density. Osteoporosis may not appear on an X-ray until the patient has lost thirty percent – or more – of his or her bone strength.

The goal of any osteoporosis treatment is to be able to prevent fractures by stopping the bone loss and improving bone density and bone strength. Detecting the condition early and receiving treatment from the onset is always recommended, but it is not always possible. There are no complete cures for this condition, but there are a number of helpful treatment options, some of which come in the form of lifestyle changes. Cutting out cigarettes, moderating the intake of alcohol and caffeine, regular exercise, and adopting a balanced diet are extremely beneficial.

In addition to vitamins C and D, patients often begin taking osteoporosis medication. There are plenty which can make bone loss stop and improve bone strength. There are also advances in osteoporosis medication occurring every day. So if your doctor has prescribed treatment for osteoporosis, it’s time to find out about Reclast —the only FDA-approved, once-a-year treatment for postmenopausal osteoporosis.

One annual intravenous (IV) dose, along with daily calcium and vitamin D, helps strengthen your bones and protect them from fracture for an entire year. Reclast is an IV, so it bypasses your digestive system, going to work to help protect you from fracture for 12 full months. Treatment takes at least 15 minutes and is given by a nurse or doctor. With Reclast you won’t have to wait to eat or remain upright for a half-hour or more. Just remember to take daily calcium and vitamin D as recommended by your doctor to maintain blood calcium levels. If your doctor tells you that you need treatment for osteoporosis, ask if Reclast could be right for you.

The hyperuricemia known as Gout develops as a debilitating condition assembling arthritis with accumulation of uric acid crystals in the body’s joints. Gout is an inflammatory disease occurring especially in men over the age of 50 in countries with an unhealthy diet like Western Europe and the USA. A starches based diet seems to prevent the appearance of Gout in many countries.

The accumulation of uric acid crystals occurs because the kidneys cannot eliminate it successfully or because the body produces uric acid in excess. The most common cause is a high intake of the precursors found in food and called purines. Purinic bases are mainly contained in fish, meat, animal muscles, poultry and seafood. Vegetables containing purines do not contribute to the apparition of gout and also moderate consume of the mentioned food cannot trigger hyperuricemia. Alcohol products are also known to stimulate the accumulation of uric acid in the joints.

Gout can be triggered by high amounts of released body fats during diets as the uric acid is stimulated to crystallize and deposit into the joints. Although the risk of developing Gout in these cases is relatively small, physicians recommend the administration of an anti-gout medication with 0.5 mg Colchicines daily for about six months during the weight loss diet.

More cases of hyperuricemia have developed after a low-carbohydrates diet was recommended, that is known to contain high amounts of purines. Like the foods rich in proteins, these kinds of food determine a rapid loss of weight and trigger an increase of the uric acid levels in the blood. The caused stress will raise the seric uric acid as well.

An early treatment of Gout increases the chances of a rapid recovery. The primer Gout medication is based on Colchicines and also the less preferred NSAIDs due to their side-effects. Patients with high levels of uric acid in their blood can be treated with Allopurinol, but persons with normal uric acid can also suffer acute attacks of Gout. High levels of seric uric acid without a chronic arthritis will not require permanent medication but a good food diet would be helpful.

In addition, you and your patients now have a new option. ULORIC is a new treatment for lowering blood uric acid levels in patients with gout. Do not take ULORIC if you are taking Azathioprine (Imuran®, Azasan®), Mercaptopurine (Purinethol®), or Theophylline (Theo-24®, Elixophyllin®, Theochron®, Theolair®, Uniphyl®). For some people, gout may flare up when starting certain gout medicines, including ULORIC. If you have a flare while taking ULORIC, do not stop taking your medicine. Your healthcare provider may give you other medicines to help prevent your gout flares. Sign up for future updates about ULORIC, plus details about patient resources on the new ULORIC.com.

Gout diets recommend avoiding muscle food and high protein vegetables like beans, peas and lentils. Persons with high accumulated amounts of uric acid in their tissues require a longer period of treatment.
